Welcome Sage, Jessica, and Sara

It is with pleasure I announce the hire of three new staff members to the Wiki Education Foundation, thereby doubling our staff! Sage Ross joins us June 2 as Product Manager, Digital Services; Jessica Craft joins us June 3 as Executive Assistant to the ED; and Sara Crouse joins us June 16 as Deputy Director & Senior Director of Fundraising and Partnerships.

About Sage

Sage will be responsible for developing technology that makes it easier to do Wikipedia classroom assignments and do them well. His main focus at first will be to develop a website that helps instructors design great Wikipedia assignments, and to explore the possibility of integrated plagiarism checking for courses we support. He will report to LiAnna.

As User:Ragesoss, Sage has been contributing to Wikimedia projects since 2005. He’s written featured articles, served as editor of The Wikipedia Signpost, and joined Wikimedia Foundation in 2010 for the pilot of the education program. Most recently, he’s been looking after Wikipedia’s course page technology and developing the training modules for students, educators and ambassadors. He has a passion for photography — and especially, making photos of Wikimedians (and their pets). Sage, his wife Faith, and their children Brighton and Everly, are currently gearing up a move to Seattle.

About Jessica

Jessica will provide executive support in a one-on-one working relationship with the ED and additional administrative support to the office (as an office manager) and the board (mostly for travel logistics and reimbursement requests). She will also serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders on all matters concerning the office of the ED. Jessica will report to me.

With over 16 years of administrative experience, Jessica has a varied background that includes industries such as marketing, legal, and engineering. Most notably, Jessica worked at a construction firm for 12 years where she oversaw the administrative department, trained new staff members, created and organized processes and procedures, and served as the key contact person for the project management staff. In her free time, Jessica enjoys working out and shopping for new shoes. However, her preferred activity is hanging out with her husband and two children. Jessica regularly volunteers for the Making Waves Program, a non-profit educational program that provides scholarships for academically inner-city youth.

About Sara

As director of fundraising and strategic partnerships, Sara will build the Wiki Education Foundation’s fundraising program, develop and implement a fundraising strategy to meet revenue targets in the near-term, and identify new revenue sources to diversify and ensure long-term sustainability. She will cultivate, solicit, and steward funding prospects and donors (including foundations, individuals, and corporations), and advise or support the ED and board on fundraising. She will also build relationships with like-minded organizations where such alliances complement or facilitate Wiki Education Foundation’s work, enhance its network, and strengthen Wiki Education Foundation’s public profile. Sara will also act as deputy director of the Wiki Education Foundation. In this capacity she will support and work closely with me, ensure redundancy in my absence, and inform the development of operations and organizational practices. Sara will report to me.

To the Wiki Education Foundation, Sara brings 17 years of professional experience, mostly in education- and technology-focused non-profits. From 2008–11, Sara was Head of Partnerships & Foundation Relations for the Wikimedia Foundation. And from 2012 to present, Sara has been Director of Strategic Partnerships for Creative Commons where she managed fundraising, partnerships and communications, and helped develop the organization’s strategic plan. Since 2011, Sara has been a board member and development committee chair for the Global Lives Project. For fun, Sara likes to get outdoors and hike, devour books and podcasts on theoretics, photograph flowers, and indulge her inner oenophile. Most always, Sara is accompanied by her esteemed canine adoptees, Pumpkin and Kai.

Please join me in welcoming Sage, Jessica, and Sara to the Wiki Education Foundation!

Frank Schulenburg
Executive Director
