Wiki Education receives $500,000 from Pineapple Fund

The New Year is off a to a good start for Wiki Education, especially in terms of fundraising. Today we are excited to announce a major unrestricted donation of $500,000 USD to Wiki Education from the Pineapple Fund! The Pineapple Fund was started in December 2017 by an anonymous donor with one of the 250 largest Bitcoin wallets in the world. This generous donor has committed $86 million worth of Bitcoin to charity, and has already given over $27 million to 37 organizations.

Wiki Education is among a select few organizations supported by the Pineapple Fund that are dedicated to universal knowledge and a free and open Internet. Some of these organizations include the Software Freedom Conservancy, which helps promote, improve, develop, and defend FLOSS projects, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a digital rights watchdog, the Apache Software Foundation, which provides software for the public good, and the Internet Archive, a digital library committed to providing universal access to all knowledge. We are honored to be recognized and supported by the Pineapple Fund along with these other incredible and important efforts.

We will use this grant to fund our core programs designed to support students as they improve underdeveloped areas of Wikipedia. We are excited for the year ahead and look forward to continuing our efforts to help hundreds of millions of people in small ways and tens of thousands of people in big ways.

Wiki Education is supported entirely by charitable contributions. If you are interested in joining the Pineapple Fund and our other wonderful partners in supporting our important work, please donate online or contact tj@wikiedu.org directly to discuss a major gift.
